Job application tracker spreadsheet template
By Safad, the studio that makes Applylane
A ready-made spreadsheet for keeping track of every job you apply to: company, role, status, dates and pay. It has a status dropdown, a color for each stage, and a summary tab that works out your reply rate for you.
Free. No sign-up, no email.
| Company | Job title | Status | Applied on | Salary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify | Data Analyst | Applied | Oct 6 | |
| Stripe | Analytics Engineer | Screening | Sep 26 | $150K |
| Canva | Product Analyst | Interview | Sep 19 | |
| Atlassian | Data Analyst | Offer | Aug 31 | $128K |
| Data Analyst | Rejected | Sep 11 |
What's inside
Eight columns, a status dropdown and a summary.
- Company
- Who you applied to.
- Job title
- The role, as the posting names it.
- Status
- A dropdown: Applied, Screening, Interview, Offer, Rejected or Closed. Each stage gets its own color.
- Applied on
- The date you sent it, so you know when to follow up.
- Location
- City, or Remote.
- Salary
- The range, if the posting lists one.
- Job link
- Postings disappear. Keep the link (and save the description somewhere) for interview prep.
- Notes
- Recruiter names, follow-ups, how the interview went.
The Summary tab counts your applications at each stage, and shows how many heard back and how many reached an interview. It updates as you type.
How to use it
Five minutes to set up.
- Excel or Numbers: open the file → start on the Applications tab.
- Google Sheets: File → Import → Upload → pick the file.
- Each time you apply: add a row → pick Applied.
- When you hear back: change the status → the Summary updates.
The trick is updating it the same day. Most job search spreadsheets fall apart around application 30, when a rejection arrives from a company you forgot you applied to.

Questions
Good to know.
Is the template free?
Yes. Download it and use it however you like. No account or email needed.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. In Google Sheets, go to File → Import → Upload and pick the .xlsx file. The status dropdown, colors and summary all come across. It also opens in Excel and Apple Numbers.
What should I track for each job application?
At least the company, job title, status and the date you applied. The link to the posting and the salary range help later, and Notes is the place for recruiter names and follow-ups.
When should I follow up on an application?
If you haven't heard anything after about a week or two, a short, polite note to the recruiter or hiring manager is fine. Write the date in Notes so you don't follow up twice. Here are follow-up email templates you can copy.
Can I move my spreadsheet into Applylane later?
Yes. Use Import on your Applylane board and upload the file. This template's columns are recognized as they are, so nothing needs renaming.
